Hyderabad, Feb 24 : The Congress and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen welcomed the Rs 4599 Crore tax-free budget of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation presented by Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain on Monday.
Speaking in the GHMC council after the presentation of budget, Deputy Mayor appreciated the enhancement in the outlay and hoped that it would ensure development of GHMC area as a model city.
Congress floor leader D Rambabu demanded that responsibility should be fixed on the officials for the implementation of GHMC plans. He also requested the Mayor to seek a status report on the implementation of works from the officials concerned. He also demanded that Food Scheme should be expanded from the proposed 15,000 poor people to 50,000. He said proposed works should be grounded before the issuing of notification for next elections.
Former Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy too welcomed the budget. Meanwhile, she also demanded that the GHMC council pass a resolution thanking AICC President Sonia Gandhi for granting statehood for Telangana region. Further, she also proposed a resolution to pay condolence to the martyrs of Telangana.
MIM floor leader Mohammad Nazeeruddin praised the budget. He demanded that the development fund of Rs 1.5 crore each allotted to all 150 corporators should be released in one spell, instead of two phases. He also sought approval for all the resolutions passed by the GHMC Standing Committee. Reacting to this request, the GHMC Mayor later tabled and passed all 42 resolutions. INN
