Lok Satta leaders interact with unorganized workers

Hyderabad, Feb 15 : Lok Satta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan and State unit President Katari Srinivasa Rao on Saturday began interacting with people engaged in the unorganized sector as part of their bid to draft an election manifesto that addresses their problems and fulfils their aspirations.

The two leaders interacted with casual workers (adda coolies), carpenters and masons in Seri Lingampalli constituency and electricians and other building workers in Jubilee Hills constituency. Dr. JP tried his hand with a carpenter’s chisel and a mason’s trowel during his visit.

Women workers pointed out that there has been no change in their lives whichever party happens to be in power. They have to reckon with insecure jobs, accidents at workplaces and liquor addiction of their spouses. Carpenters bemoaned that they are not adequately compensated for their work and as a result they have not been able to take care of the education and healthcare needs of their children.

Masons said that although five masons died in accidents every day in Hyderabad, none is coming to the rescue of their families. They demanded that safety regulations be strictly implemented to prevent accidents.

Dr. JP said that the State Government has collected Rs.1023 crore from builders towards a welfare fund for construction workers but spent Rs.63 crore only on Dr. JP told the workers that real politics should aim at eradicating poverty. He sought their support for the Lok Satta Party which is committed to ushering in a new dawn in the lives of unorganized workers.

Among those who accompanied Dr. JP and Katari Srinivasa Rao were Gorti Srinivas, GHMC unit Vice President and Bontu Sambireddy, party contestant from Jubilee Hills constituency.

On Sunday (February 16), Dr. JP and other leaders will be interacting with workers engaged in the private transport sector in Kukatpalli (9-11 a.m.) and Sanatnagar (12 noon) constituencies and at Secunderabad railway station (1 p.m.).  INN
