Hyderabad, Jan 22 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has reviewed the functioning of the existing shelters and it was proposed to conduct a rapid survey to know the field problems so that the concept of Night Shelter can be analyzed and strengthened. For this purpose the Commissioner, GHMC has prepared different formats to capture the data on field.
Accordingly, a rapid survey was conducted during the night on 20-1-2014 & 21-1-2014 by deploying about 95 teams all across GHMC. The survey has revealed that there are 3498 number people (Male: 2520, Female: 978) sleeping on roads, pavement, open spaces without proper shelter. Out of them 1078 are Beggars. They also included 724 Patient’s attendants; 1209 Migrated for livelihood; 127 just in transit; 488 came temporarily for some work; 303 hail from city, but have no home and 647 are sleeping on roads for other reasons.
The GHMC has compiled and analyzed the data in terms of gender, nature of stay, occupation and area of operation to make suitable arrangements to the shelter less people. The details are enclosed.
