Hyderabad, Jan 20 : Wakf Board Special Officer and Minorities Welfare Commission Shiak Mohammad Iqbal on Monday informed that cases would be booked against erring ‘Mutawallis’ (caretakers) of Wakf properties under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Speaking to media persons here, Iqbal said that as per the Wakf Act of 1995, the Mutawallis fall into the category of Public Servant and they could be booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act besides other sections of IPC and Cr PC. He informed that besides Madina Education and Welfare Society Secretary KM Arifuddin, other erring Mutawallis would be booked for irregularities. He said that a case has been registered against Habeeb Alladin, the Mutawalli of Mecca Madina Alladin Wakf which owns 600 shops and a property in Secunderabad.
Further, the Wakf Board has also decided to approach the Wakf Tribunal in the case of alleged encroachment on Wakf properties by the Viceroy Hotel owners. INN
