Sikhs take out colourful “Nagar Keertan” procession

Hyderabad, Jan 5 : As part of the ongoing 348th Prakash Utsav, the birthday celebrations of 10th and last Sikh Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singhji, founder of Khalsa Panth, a huge colourful “Nagar Keertan” (Holy Procession) was taken out by the Prabhandak Committee of Central Gurudwara Saheb Gowliguda on Sunday.

The Holy Procession passed through the corridors of Central Gurudwara Saheb,Gowliguda Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha,Ashok Bazar, Afzalgunj, Siddiamber Bazar, M J Market, Jambagh and Putlibowli and returned back to Gurudwara in the evening.

Prabhandak Committee President S Tirlok Singh and General Secretary S Rashpal Singh said that the over 20,000 Sikh devotees participated in the “Nagar Keertan” which was marked with carrying of Guru Granth Sahibji (sacred and revered scripture of Sikhs) on a beautifully decorated vehicle along with “Nishaan Saheban” (Flag bearers) of various Gurudwaras during the procession. Shabad keertans were rendered by Jatha Tera Jatha and other Keerthani Jathas of men,women and youth groups all along the procession. “Panj Pyaras” (Five beloved ones) were the cynosure of all eyes for the passersby.

The Sikh youths hailing from Kalgidhar Dashmesh Jatha and other Gatka Jathas displayed their exhilarating “GATKA” skills (Sikh martial art forms) by performing extraordinary exercise with their blunt weapons, Kirpans, swords skills and other skills with breathtaking performance attracting the passerbys all along the procession routes, Kada Prasad, tea and snacks were supplied to the devotees and passers by all along the routes.

As the main Birthday Celebrations of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji falls on January 7, a “Vishaal Deewan” (Mass Congregation) will be held at Central Gurdwara Saheb Gowliguda from 11 AM to 4 PM on Tuesday where over 25,000 to 30,000 Sikh Devotees and other community faiths will converge at the programme.

The event will be marked by the recitations of Gurbani Keertans (Holy Hymns) by the reputed Ragi Jathas (religious preachers) who are being specially invited from various parts of the country to render shabad keertans.

Bhai Balpreet Singhji, Mata Vipinpreet Kaurji (Punjab), Bhai Hari Singhji and others will recite shabad keertans and other reputed Ragi Jathas will recite shabad keertans and Kathas and throw light on the teachings of Sikh Gurus. After the culmination of the congregation Guru Ka Langar (free community kitchen) will be served to the devotees.

A Night Kirtan Darbar (Night Congregation) will be held at Central Gurudwara Saheb Gowliguda from 9.30 pm to 2 am on Monday in which above said renowned Ragi Jathas wil rendered keertans and kathas followed by Guru ka Langar. INN
