Crimes against women on the rise in city

Hyderabad, Dec 28 : Crimes against women are on the rise in limits of Hyderabad City Police.

Addressing the annual press meet at Police Officers’ Mess here on Saturday, City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma informed as many 2,124 cases of crime against women were reported this year as against 1,823 cases in 2012. Of 2,124 cases, 1477 cases are of harassment, 89 rapes, 35 abetment to suicide, 32 dowry deaths, six dowry murders and 485 other cases.

However, there has been a slight decrease in the overall cases under important heads. While 15,824 different cases were registered this year, the figure was 15,965 last year. The cases reported this year include 103 murders, seven dacoities, 48 robberies, 644 House Burglaries, 1099 hurts, 3,974 ordinary theft, 124 kidnappings, 2277 cheatings, 74 cases of Criminal Breach of Trust and 112 cases of rioting.

The Commissioner said that the crime prevent and detection during 2013 was good, despite the fact that there is a vacancy of 31% of the Hyderabad City Police. As against the sanctioned strength of 12,401 posts, presently there are 8,554 personnel while as many as 3,847 posts are still vacant. Further, the City Police was very busy with Law and Order duties like Assembly sessions, festival bandobust duties, Telangana agitation, investigation of bomb blast case and investigation of communal offences of 2012.

The Cyber Crimes showed almost 350% increase from 47 cases in 2012 to 162 cases in 2013. They include six cases of uploading fake profile of women in social media, 42 cases of stalking SMS, email and calls, 21 cases of job fraud and 17 cases each of online fraud and ATM/Debit Card/Credit Card fraud.

During this year, 40 NDPS cases were detected and 80 accused including three foreigners were arrested and seized 72 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of Brown Sugar, 42 Ecstasy Pills, 12 grams of Ketamine drug, 131 bundles of Khat leaves and 412 Kgs of Ganja. Many important gans were apprehended and all the sensational cases were successfully detected.

The Commissioner said that communal peace and harmony was maintained in 2013.

Of 1324 cases of automobile theft reported in 2013, the police detected 40.33% cases.

The total accidents have reduced this year in comparison to earlier years. As many as 426 deaths were reported in 2,338 accidents this year (up to December 22) as against 432 deaths in 2,576 last year. The Commissioner said that though fatal accidents have been uniform since 2011 but it needs to be seen that everyday 600 vehicles are added and infrastructure has not improved rather carriage ways have reduced on account of ongoing Metro work, etc.,

The Hyderabad City Police has collected a whopping Rs 45.08 crore from 30,87,915 traffic rules violators. Although the number of violators this year have increased by just 3,305 compared to last year, the City Police collected Rs 3.70 crore additional fine compared to 2012. INN
