Amalapuram, Nov 22 : Minister for Registrations and Stamps Thota Narashiham said that necessary steps were taken in Amalapuram division in East Godavari District to safe guard the public and property due to Helen cyclone.
Speaking to the media persons here at Amalpuram, the minister said that 3,263 people from 979 families in 13 mandals in Amalapuram division were shifted to relief camps and being provided food and shelter. He further said that efforts were made by the district administration to meet any eventuality by keeping men and material ready and road clearance.
Heavy losses have occurred to paddy, banana and coconut trees in the division. He said enumeration of losses would be done from Saturday onwards, if the normalcy returns. He said that necessary measures were taken wherever necessary from village level.
Amalapuram MP GV Harsha Kumar said that general public should cooperate with the administration to meet the situation and requested the oil sector companies in the division to participate in relief works.
In view of the Helen cyclone the district administration declared high alert in the district and cautioned the coastal area people and shifted them to safer places. Holiday has been declared to all the schools in the coastal areas and Rachabanda programme in Amalapuram division was cancelled on Friday.
Two teams of each 45 members of National Disaster Rescue were kept ready at Razole and Amalpuram. District Collector Neethu Prasad camped at Amalapuram on Friday and joint collector, additional joint collector and sub-collector Rampachodavarm, monitored the situation in coastal villages. INN
