Hyderabad, Nov 16 : GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain assured his full cooperation by sharing the experiences and by providing the necessary inputs to the COP-12 organizers. Hyderabad hosted the Convention on Biological Diversity -Conference of Parties (COP- 11) on 1-19 Oct 2012 at HICC in the city.
The Republic of Korea is organizing COP-12, in 2014. A High level Korean Delegates came to the city to learn the activities done on the city during the COP-11. The committee has arrived city on 14th November and are leaving the country on 16th November.
The committee consists of Kim Dug Lae, Director General, Bureau of Green Resources, Roh, Jaesoo, Deputy Mayor of Pyeongchang, Choi Chanwoong, Director, Environment Division, Lee Shihan, Planning Manager, CBD-CoP12 and Ham Young Lae, Member, Support Group CBD-CoP12 have called on the GHMC Mayor on Saturday. The Committee was accompanied by Dr R. Hampaiah, Chairman, A.P. State Biodiversity Board and other officials.
The delegates discussed for an hour about the CBD- COP-11 event which was organized in the city last year. During the discussions, the Mayor explained about the arrangements made by GHMC during COP-11.
The Mayor was also presented the special edition copy of City Biodiversity Index of Greater Hyderabad and a set of recent corporation publications. The delegates have taken a special note of Mayors meet as part of “Cities for Life” and expressed their intention to host the sequel of such Mayors meet. The Korean Delegates have presented a Sacred Bell memento to Mohammad Majid Hussain in turn the Mayor felicitated the delegates and presented the Charminar Memento.
After the completion of the meeting with the Mayor, the delegates had a meeting with the Additional Commissioner – Urban Biodiversity. The delegates had elaborated discussion on the technical and management aspects of greenery during the COP-11. The delegates took special note on the post COP-11 biodiversity measures of the host city. The delegates appreciated the commissioner, GHMC for increasing the number of greenery programmes in the city. The delegates have appreciated the “Creation of Urban Biodiversity Wing” which is a unique initiative.
The delegates have already met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and will be meeting the Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Environment, Forests, Science & Technology and will depart from Hyderabad airport. INN
