Hyderabad, Oct 4 : YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will go on an indefinite fast from Saturday in protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana State.
Addressing a press conference here, Jagan said that he would launch the indefinite hunger strike at his party office in Hyderabad.
“Is it justifiable to divide the State without an Assembly resolution? What kind of democracy we are living in when people intentionally choose to ignore the Assembly?” Jagan said adding that all the States which were divided earlier were supported by the Assembly resolutions. He said that the decision was taken only for the sake of votes and seats.
Jagan said that the division should be stopped and all leaders should join hands to save the State. He appealed to Chandrababu Naidu to support the Samaikhyandhra protest. He said that he would welcome all leaders to join the protest by holding their own party flags.
The YSRCP chief also announced that his party’s delegation would leave for Delhi to meet the leaders of different political parties to get their support against State’s bifurcation.
Jagan said that the division of State would create several crisis, especially in river water sharing. He said despite the Tribunals, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu has been fighting with each other every year for their share of water. He said a similar situation would arrive as Seemandhra region would be deprived of water. He said the students and job seekers too would face a similar fate after State’s division.
“How a Group of Ministers could address all these issues in six month?” he asked. He also said that it was improper for the Centre to ask people to leave a city in 10 years which they have built over six decades. INN
