Hyderabad, Oct 3 : Taking strong objection to the cabinet note on Telangana getting ready showing scant respect to the mass movement in Seemandhra, YSR Congress has demanded the Centre to refrain from any process of dividing the state or it has to take complete responsibility of the consequences arising out of such unilateral decisions.
“While the cabinet note could be revoked, the decision on dividing the state can be taken back keeping in view the sentiments of crores of Seemandhra people who are on strike for the past 65 days, “party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma told reporters here on Wednesday.
YSR Congress has been demanding the Government to convene the assembly ahead of the cabinet note and pass a resolution against the division of the State but there was no response and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu, whose letter has fuelled the division process, has been indifferent to the mass movement that is going on in Seemandhra region.
“We demand that the process of division of state should be stopped forthwith and the Centre should keep away from any such moves. If it goes forward with an authoritarian attitude of dividing the state, it should take the responsibility of all consequences arising out of its action,” she said.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition Chandrababu Naidu have been very helpful to the Centre in the division process as the former could not mount pressure to stall the cabinet note while the latter refused to withdraw the letter he has given in support of a separate state.
Despite our demand to convene a special session of the assembly to pass a resolution against the division of the state to pre-empt the division process by the Centre beginning from preparing the Cabinet note, the state leaders had not responded positively.
The situation has turned volatile with the Centre going ahead with the division and we demand the UPA government to withdraw its decision of creating a separate state in the interest of the people who have hit the road for over two months and are expressing their dissent in various forms. There is no consensus on the issue of bifurcation as YSRCP and two other parties are opposing it.
“We warn the state and centre of dire consequences if the division course is not stopped. When an ordinance, which could have become a Bill in due course of time, could be reversed, a decision which is not being endorsed by the majority of the people can easily be taken back,” she said.
In a separate press conference, party senior leader Dr MV Mysoora Reddy echoed the same stand and said that the issue is sensitive in nature and it should be handled carefully without hurting the sentiments of the people of all regions.
“Parties express opinions and government will take decisions. If the Ordinance could be withdrawn after drawing flak from some quarters, the decision of Core Committee can also be reversed. We do not give consent to the Ordinance but are mentioning the procedures adopted.
The authoritarian and unilateral behavior of the Centre will give rise to serious consequences and it has to take responsibility,” he said. INN
