Hyderabad, Sept 17 : 1969 Telangana Movement Founders Forum Co-Convener Dr Kolluri Chiranjeevi condemned the celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day.
Talking to reporters here, Kolluri said that the celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day on 17th September by the political parties was against the principals of secularism as the day also witnessed the killing of nearly two lakh Muslims in 1948. He said that no political party should celebrate the anniversary of massacre of any community.
Kolluri said that the then Union Home Minister Vallabhbhai Patel ordered Operation Polo on September 12, 1948, while taking advantage of foreign visit of Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He said nearly two lakh Muslims were killed and their properties were looted in the name of Police Action. He said the VIIth Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan not only welcomed the merger, but also served as Raj Pramukh till 1950.
He said that those associated with Telangana movement need to learn the history from 1948 to 1969. He said the celebrations in Maharashtra and Karnataka were being done at the instance of RSS and Arya Samaj. He condemned the demand for similar celebrations in Telangana by the BJP and other political groups. INN
