Hyderabad, July 11 : The South Central Railway detected and penalized 19,754 persons for violating the provisions of Indian Railways (Penalties for Activities Affecting Cleanliness at Railway Premises) Rules-2012 during the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year 2013-14.
They include 5,644 persons in Secunderabad Division; 2,292 persons in Hyderabad Division; 5,229 persons in Vijayawada Division; 1,979 persons in Nanded Division and 3,090 persons in Guntakal Division, 1520 persons in Guntur Division. An amount of Rs. 39,70,830 was realized from these persons towards penalty.
The Indian Railways (Penalties for Activities Affecting Cleanliness at Railway Premises) Rules-2012 came into effect from November, 2012. It authorizes the Railway administration to penalize any person / passenger who is found either littering or spitting or urinating or defecating or pasting posters or dumping garbage on railway premises such as stations, trains etc., with a penalty up to Rs. 500.
These provisions are being vigorously implemented on all the six Divisions of SCR by Station Masters, Ticket Collectors and other railway officials who have been authorized to detect and penalize the offenders.
