Hyderabad, July 8: At least six people were killed and several others injured when a two-floor building on Rashtrapati Road in Secunderabad housing an Irani cafe collapsed in the early hours of Monday.
While 15 people have been rescued by the police and GHMC teams, nearly 20 people are feared trapped inside the debris. Several cranes, JCB machines and gas-cutters have been pressed into service to clear the debris to rescue those trapped inside the building.
The injured have been shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment and their condition is said be to stable.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy visited the spot and ordered an inquiryinto the incident.
City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma, GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu and other senior officials supervised the rescued operations. Ministers – Danam Nagender and M Mukesh Goud too visited the spot.
City Light Hotel was among 57 old buildings in the area which were served demolition notice by the GHMC. However, the hotel owner reportedly stayed demolition by approaching a court.
