Hyderabad, June 30 : In an unprecedented show of unity and strength, the Congress leaders from Telangana region on Sunday expressed confidence that the Centre would give Telangana State soon.
“I’m very confident that Soniaji under her leadership and Manmohan Singh Government will certainly take a decision very soon in favour of formation of Telangana State,” said former PCC President D Srinivas while addressing the Telangana Sadhana Sabha at Nizam College Ground here.
Srinivas said that the Congress High Command and UPA Government was seized of the matter and well received the representations on the statehood issue. He said that the Centre would soon take a decision in favour of Telangana which would be welcomed and acceptable by Seemandhra people. He said that the formation of Telangana would not divide the Telugus and they would remain united emotionally.
By ensuring huge participation in the public meeting, presided by Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy, the Congress leaders gave a strong message that TRS was not the only party that advocates Telangana. Deputy Chief Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha, Union Ministers Balaram Naik and Sarve Satyanarayana, MPs V Hanumantha Rao, Gutta Sukhendar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Rajaiah, Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, M Anjan Kumar Yadav, Ministers B Saraiah, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, DK Aruna, Dr J Geetha Reddy Prasad Kumar, Sridhar Babu and Sudarshan Reddy, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders addressed the meeting.
Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah read out a resolution demanding formation of Telangana. Through the public meeting, the leaders have also expressed confidence in leadership of Sonia Gandhi. He said that any delay would hamper the very survival of party in the region.
The others leaders too said that only Congress party was capable of giving Telangana State. While other leaders did not set any deadline for T-formation, MLC Mohammad Ali Shabbir said that Sonia Gandhi might announce Telangana within a week’s time.
The public meeting began after paying tributes to the martyrs who ended their lives for cause of Telangana. INN
