Anigandlapadu (Krishna Dt) April 20 : YSR Congress Party Honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma on Saturday called for a change in the mind set of men saying they should cultivate viewing women as their sisters, mothers and daughters.
Addressing people prior to staging a silent sit-in at Anigandlapadu village in Krishna district in protest against the ghastly raping incident of a five-year old girl in Delhi, Vijayamma said it was distressing to note that atrocities on women were on the rise day by day.
She condemned the Delhi rape incident and said the Central and State Governments should also act tough against the perpetrators of such crimes. “Daily we are coming across such heinous crimes. To prevent recurrence of such incidents, men should change their mindset and treat women with respect besides the Governments strictly implementing the laws,” she said.
Vijayamma, Y S Sharmila and YSRCP spokesperson Vasireddy Padma staged the sit-in silently stripping their mouths with black ribbons along with hundreds of followers.
Sharmila, who cancelled her scheduled Rachchabanda programme and staged the protest, said women lacked security in the Congress rule. “It is unfortunate that this incident has happened even before the people forgot the Nirbhaya incident. Despite Sonia Gandhi being the Congress party chief and Shiela Dikshit the Delhi CM, women are feeling insecure with repetition of such heinous crimes almost every day” she lamented.
Citing the recent Tenali incident, she said the increasing number of wine shops and bars are responsible for atrocities on women in the state and pointed out that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has been aiming to increase the liquor sales by 15 per cent every month. “The things are no different from the Chandrababu Naidu regime. Anuradha, a victim of acid attack during the Naidu regime, was not helped by him despite the orders of the Supreme Court. After YSR became CM, he helped the victim with some financial aid,” she said.
