Hyderabad, April 20 : The South Central Railway on Saturday clarified that the incident of rape of a girl on Friday took place outside the Ramagundem Railway Station and not in the station premises.
“It is clarified that the said condemnable incident took place outside the Railway Station premises at Ramagundam and not at the Station and the case is being dealt with by the local Police. The victim, who was on the platform, was apparently lured by a stranger on the promise of guiding her to get a train to her destination and led her to outside the Railway Station premises, the SCR said in a press release.
“Though the reported incident took place outside the Railway Station premises, SCR is deeply saddened and concerned that the security of an unaccompanied female passenger was affected,” the SCR said.
In view of this incident, the SCR took several measures to prevent such incidents in future. They include making of frequent announcements over the Public Announcement System at Stations advising the passengers, especially the women passengers not to fall prey to any strangers regarding boarding of trains, etc., displaying messages in Railway Stations to sensitize and spread awareness among passengers on this subject and alerting the RPF/GRP and the local Station staff to keep a special watch on the security of lone women passengers, especially during night.
The SCR has appealed to the passengers that they may approach the local Enquiry counter or the Station Master for any enquiry need and for getting necessary guidance on catching the right train to their destination. In case the passengers are approached by any unknown person or face any security problem in Railway premises, they are requested to immediately contact the local RPF/GRP or any nearest Railway staff for assistance.
