Weaker sections houses in GHMC to have 2-bed rooms from now onwards

Hyderabad, June 12 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar directed the housing department officials to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for 2-bed room houses for upcoming housing projects for weaker sections.

The Commissioner held a review meeting with Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh Additional Commissioner (Urban Community Development) K. Siva Parvathi about the upcoming housing projects in GHMC limits. He directed the officials that all the houses to be constructed from now onwards should be of double bed room type, by maintaining strict adherence to the promise made by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Somesh Kumar said that as per records there are 1,478 slums in GHMC, out of which 680 slums are located in State Government lands, 72 in local body lands, 502 in private-owned lands, 125 are in private occupied lands, 12 are in GoI lands including Railways, Defence and Airport and three are of mixed ownership, one in endowment lands, two are in Wakf lands and 81 are in other lands. Stating that the number of slums is increasing day by day, he said that the number might have reached 1700 slums now. He directed the UCD people to conduct detailed survey in this regard.

The Commissioner was briefed that there are three types of housing colonies- INSITU (in the same location by removing the existing structures), INSITU Up-gradation (where there are some pucca houses along with huts but without infrastructure) and Re-location (where the slum in a hazardous location, the housing colony will be shifted to some safer place). The Commissioner directed the officials to identify 15 slums to take up the construction of housing colonies on pilot basis and bifurcate the slums basing on the type of housing that will be taken up in the slum.

The officials have briefed the Commissioner that they’ve prepared DPRs for Banjara Colony, Circle-3, Ismail Nagar Slum, Circle-4, Jamgammet MCH quarters, Circle-4 and Narsimha Basthi (near Nallakunta), Circle-9 and the Commissioner directed them to change the DPRs in to 2 bed room module.  INN
