Cong-MIM combine wins GHMC Standing Committee elections

Hyderabad, June 6 : The Congress and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen combine has maintained its control for the fifth consecutive term over the Standing Committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

While eight corporators of the Congress party got elected, all seven nominees of the MIM were elected as the members of the Standing Committee for which elections were held on Friday. The new elected members of the Standing Committee are Sigireddy Dhanpal Reddy, A Mahesh Yadav, A Krishna, C Sunitha, Mohammed Wajid Hussain, J Satyanarayana, Mohsin Bin Abdullah Balala, D Anil Singh, J Devanand, Md Farooquddin, Mir Wajid Ali Khan, MA Gaffar, V Bhanumati, Abdul Qavi Ansari and Dr Mohd Yousuf Naqshbandi.

Of 148 corporators, eight including former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy abstained from the voting due to different reasons. With the combined strength of 93 corporators, the Congress-MIM combine ensured that it continues its dominance over the Standing Committee. Two seats fell vacant due to the election of corporators – D Raja Singh and Jaffer Hussain Meraj as the members of Telangana Legislative Assembly.  INN
