GHMC Chief asks officials to certify good roads

Hyderabad, June 4 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that Executive Engineers of GHMC should be in a position to give a certificate declaring that all my roads are free from road cuttings and pot holes.

The Commissioner held a review meeting along with Additional Commissioner (Planning) P Venkata Rami Reddy, Central Zone Commissioner D Ronald Rose, Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh and other senior officials in City Manager’s Training Centre on monsoon emergency on Wednesday. The Commissioner has directed the Executive Engineers to think on humanitarian grounds and plan for the comprehensive strategy to tackle with the roads and also wanted for a deadline from Executive Engineers for above declaration.

In response to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s directions, the Commissioner held a review meeting today and he wondered why the engineering department can’t take a truck of ready mix or a “Shellmac” (a mix which can be used directly on wet roads) and fill up the pot holes in a night’s time. He promised that he would sanction each and every work that will be put forward by the engineering wing.

The Commissioner said that debris removal from Central Zone has become a perennial problem the GHMC is ready to pay whatever amount is required and directed the officials to plan in a systematic way for debris removal. He directed the engineering officials to improve the mechanism of emergency control rooms and directed the officials to submit a report on tree falls, water logging points on roads, inundation of low lying areas and building collapse, if any, on daily basis.

Somesh Kumar directed the officials to prepare a proforma on all low lying areas in GHMC limits by duly giving details such as population, reasons for inundation, from which tank the water is coming, contact person of that area and list of rehabilitation centres in case of emergency.

The Commissioner has directed the officials to strengthen the monsoon teams and directed that they should be near the stagnation points when there is a heavy rain. The team has discussed water logging points and low lying areas such as Rajbhavan Road, CM Camp Office, Mythrivanam, Villa Mary, Chintalbasthi opp. Tajkrishna, Eden Garden, Haj House, Lake View Guest House, KCP Junction, Nadeem Colony, Bathukamma Kunta, Ramakka Cheruvu etc., He further suggested the Engineers to bifurcate problematic areas in to two categories as technical problem and implementation problem and he will sanction all the works that are finalized the engineering staff as there is no dearth of funds in GHMC.  INN
