GHMC gears up to face monsoon fury

Hyderabad, May 24 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Saturday proposed join inspections of GHMC and police officials to resolve the issues of water stagnation and traffic congestion during the monsoon season.

The GHMC Commissioner held a review meeting with the Traffic Police, Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and other senior officials of Engineering and Police Department at Panwar Hall on Saturday. He said that the team work would play a vital role and effective coordination among all departments would yield good results. He informed said that Rs. 21 crores have been sanctioned for desilting works and Rs. 5 crores for water stagnation. Almost all the works are in progress.

Somesh Kumar directed his staff to coordinate with Police Officials and keep them posted on the status of works being executed. He said nearly 200 works have been sanctioned with regard to water stagnation points and patch works. Of them, 109 works have been proposed by the Traffic police and 88 works were identified by the GHMC itself. He said that the GHMC was taking up critical works such as the water logging and stagnation points, even on R&B & National Highways on priority basis for the convenience of the citizens of the twin cities.

The Commissioner further directed R&B, Police and GHMC Engineering Wing to make joint inspections regularly to have proper coordination to take up the works.

Somesh Kumar said that the Emergency Cell has been strengthened and 18 Central emergency teams have been formed for all five zones which will be under direct control of Zonal Commissioner. He also directed the Chief Engineer to increase the number of Emergency Teams to 60 from present 41 teams working under the Deputy Commissioners.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic – Hyderabad) Jithender has requested the GHMC officials to keep the police posted about the schedule of their works. Additional Commissioner of Police (Cyberabad) Avinash Mohanthy asked the GHMC to take up the black tapping of roads which were dug up by the AP Transco. He informed that many roads were damaged due to HMR works causing several water stagnation points.

GHMC Special Commissioner Rahul Bojja, DCP Shyam Sunder, GHMC Chief Engineer Anjaneyulu and all the Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and senior officials from Engineering and police wing have participated in the meeting.  INN
