State Congress sets no targets for membership drive

Hyderabad, October 17 : The membership drive of the Pradesh Congress Committee will be launched on October 18 at Gandhi Bhavan.

Speaking to media persons here, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana said that the membership drive would be launched in the presence of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, former Chief Ministers, former presidents of PCC and other leaders. Unlike past where the membership was of three types, this year there will be a single category of membership. Last year, the party had set a target of enrolling 40 lakh members. But this year, no such target has been set, he said.

The PCC chief also said that there were strong indications of a reshuffle in the Union cabinet in the next two to three days. He said that the PCC has also recommended a few names for induction into the Union Minister. However, he refused to disclose the names of those MPs.

Botsa Satyanarayana also condemned the denial of entry to Telangana journalist in the global biodiversity conference to cover Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s programme on Tuesday. He said restricting an individual for valid reasons might be done, but targeting media organisations was intolerable. He assured that he would speak to the police officials concerned about the incident and ensure that such things do not recur.
