Hyderabad, Feb 15 (INN): The initiative of South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager P K Srivastava towards creating a green environ in the Railway neighbourhood borne results with the SCR bagging six prestigious awards at the 1st Annual Gardens Festival–2015, organized by Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Telangana State.
These awards were given for the best maintenance of gardens. Awards were judged from among 151 entries under 10 categories for State wide horticulture competition by a twelve member panel of Judges constituted by the Horticulture Department. I Venkatrami Reddy, Addl. Director & I/c Commissioner, (Horticulture), Govt. of Telangana State presented these awards to SCR’s Officials at a function held at Hyderabad recently. The SCR participated in six categories and has won in all. It has got two first prizes, three second prizes and one special prize. The six awards received this year, better the last year’s achievement of three awards for SCR in this festival.
The Six awards were received under the Category V, gardens maintained by individuals.
For the first time ever, the residential house of the SCR GM won the 1st Prize under the Landscape area above 150 sq.mtrs, the most notable award among this category. The bungalow of GM spread over 150 sq.mts has a sprawling garden, maintained beautifully by Hyderabad Division. It is adorned by large variety of ornamental plants, fruit bearing plants inclusive that of a seasonal flower bearing varieties. Srivastava spends large part of his weekends in seeing the development and proper upkeep of the garden. He systematically nurtures the garden with dexterity. The General Manager’s bungalow also won Special Prize under ‘Roof Gardens – Ornamental Gardens’ category. These gardens are artistically laid out. His parents also show keen interest in growing it.
In addition, the garden being maintained at the bungalow of Rakesh Aron, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division in South Lallaguda bagged 1st Prize in ‘Roof Gardens – Ornamental Gardens Category’ for Landscape Area between 100 to 150 sq.mtrs.
The 2nd Prize’s in Residential Gardens ‘Gardens Maintained by Individuals’ above 150 sq.mts category was bagged by the bungalow of Dinesh Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Railway Safety at South Lallaguda. 2nd Prize was bagged under Roof Gardens-Ornamental Gardens – Kitchen Gardens below 200 sq.mts category for the bungalow maintained at South Lallaguda of S.N.Singh, Principal Chief Engineer, SCR and also one more 2nd Prize was bagged under the Residential Gardens category for the bungalow maintained at S.P.Sahu, Chief Safety Officer, SCR.
The Gardens maintained on SCR have been getting recognition for the best maintenance in the face of tough competition every year during the annual Garden Festival conducted by the Horticulture Department.
Srivastava complimented SCR’s officials and the maintenance personnel concerned for taking keen interest in carefully developing and nurturing the gardens, reflecting the due importance accorded to the upkeep of nature and environment by the Railways.
