Hyderabad, Feb 14 (INN): Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali was elated over the response to the ongoing membership drive in the Old City of Hyderabad.
The Deputy CM on Saturday held a meeting with party’s senior leaders and directed them to intensify the membership drive so as to achieve the set targets. During the meeting, TRS senior leader Rashid Shareef briefed the Deputy CM that people in the Old City of Hyderabad have been joining the TRS in large numbers. He explained the details of the day-long membership drive taken up by party wherein thousands of new members were enrolled on Friday alone.
Rashid Shareef reportedly told the Deputy CM that the TRS made a kind of record in terms of enrolling thousands of new members in just one day on Friday. Led by TRS Greater Hyderabad incharge M Hanumantha Rao, all TRS leaders visited several areas of the Old City covering five Assembly constituencies – Yakutpura, Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Malakpet and Charminar. The drive was well received by the people, especially in view of various welfare programmes launched by the TRS Government. The response has been tremendous in the slum areas of the Old City, he said.
The TRS had set a target of enrollment of 50,000 members in the Old City. While the incharge of each of the seven Assembly segments of Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency were given the targets of enrolling 5,000 members each, Rashid Shareef was assigned the target of enrollment of 15,000 members by February 20. Rashid Shareef assured the Deputy CM that the set targets of enrollment of new members would be achieved within the stipulated deadline.
The incharges for five Assembly segments also briefed the Deputy CM about the status of membership drives in their areas. They include Deputy CM’s son Azam Ali (incharge of Malakpet constituency), Md Shabbir Ahmed (Yakutpura), Ram Reddy (Chandrayangutta), Syed Abdul Khaisar (Bahadurpura) and Inayat Ali Baqri (Charminar).
Rashid Shareef informed that an intensified drive would be taken up on Sunday in all the areas of the Old City. Additional counters will also be set up at TRS Bhavan, the Old City headquarters, at Etebar Chowk on Mir Alam Mandi Road to handle rush in view of Sunday.
