Hyderabad, Feb 13 (INN): The membership drive taken up by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Friday evoked tremendous response in the Old City of Hyderabad.
Led by TRS Greater Hyderabad incharge M Hanumantha Rao, the TRS leaders visited several areas of the Old City covering five Assembly constituencies – Yakutpura, Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Malakpet and Charminar. They addressed meetings at various places in the Old City and invited people to join the TRS. Stating that only TRS Government could bring development in the Old City, the leaders urged the people to join the party and strengthen it in their areas.
The TRS leaders claimed that their appeal was well received by the people and hundreds of people enrolled themselves as TRS members. “TRS made a kind of record in terms of enrolling thousands of members in just one day. We began our drive at 11 AM and it will continue till mid-night. We will be able to share the exact figures only on Saturday, but we can say that thousands of people have joined TRS today,” claimed Rashid Sahreef, the TRS Incharge of Hyderabad Parliamentary Constituency.
The TRS had set a target of enrollment of 50,000 members in the Old City. While the incharge of each of the seven Assembly segments of Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency were given the targets of enrolling 5,000 members each, Rashid Shareef was assigned the target of enrollment of 15,000 members by February 20. “We have almost reached our target. Thousands of people are already working with us for the last few months and now we are just formally enrolling them as members,” said Rashid Shareef.
The Friday’s membership drive was planned by the Old City wing of the TRS. Instead of setting up separate camps, the local leaders decided to move into the Old City areas along with other State leaders. They moved from one area to the other while addressing several meetings on the move. They also interacted with the locals on the problems being faced by them and assured to resolve them by taking up with the authorities concerned.
The incharges for membership drive in five Assembly segments coordinated the tour. Besides Rashid Shareef and senior leader Raheemullah Khan Niazi, Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali’s son Azam Ali (incharge of Malakpet constituency), Md Shabbir Ahmed (Yakutpura), Ram Reddy (Chandrayangutta), Syed Abdul Khaisar (Bahadurpura) and Inayat Ali Baqri (Charminar) participated in the tour and organised meetings in their areas to enroll new members.
After the tour, Hanumantha Rao held a review meeting at the TRS Bhavan, party’s Old City headquarters, and directed the incharges to intensify the campaign during weekend.
“The membership drive will be intensified on Saturday and Sunday and the TRS hopes to enroll thousands of members from across the Old City during the weekend. Those interested in joining the party may also visit TRS Bhavan, the Old City headquarters, at Etebar Chowk on Mir Alam Mandi Road during working hours,” said Rashid Shareef. (INN)
