Hyderabad, Feb 13 (INN): The mortal remains of Major Taher Hussain Khan were laid to rest with full military honour at a graveyard close to the Malla Reddy Medical College near his house at Suraram village in Qutubullahpur in Jedimetla here on Friday, in the presence of his family members, relatives and local people.
Major Taher Hussain Khan has made the supreme sacrifice while on duty during a night flying sortie in the Safapura area of Kashmir day before yesterday. He was posted as a pilot of the Advanced Light Helicopter (Dhruv) in the ‘202 Army Aviation Squadron’. The funeral prayer was attended by a large number of local people at around 10:30 am this morning followed by wreath laying and floral tributes with full military honours, accorded as per military rules.
A contingent of more than 500 Army personnel paid homage to their comrade in arms. They were joined in this solemn occasion by family and close relations of the brave officer. Amidst sounding of the Last Post by trained Buglers of the AOC Centre and a three guns salute to the departed hero,
A large number of civil officials and military officers from Army, Air Force and Navy attended the solemn ceremony. Wreathes were laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, the GOC-in-C, Southern Command and GOC ATNK&K Area by Brigadier Ajai Singh Negi, Officiating General Officer Commanding of the Andhra Sub Area and other officers. Similarly, wreathes on behalf of the Governor and the Chief Minister were also laid on the occasion.
The brave young officer was recently married in May 2014. He hailed from a family serving in the Army and Air Force. His father Sarwar Hussain Khan has retired from the Air Force and his elder brother is working in the Army, while his younger brother is currently posted in the Air Force Station at Begumpet in Hyderabad.
