Hyderabad, Feb 7 (INN): Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has asked the cab drivers to play an active role in ensuring the safety of women while performing their duties.
Speaking after launching the Training and Appraising the Drivers Programme at the Cognizant Technology Services (CTS) premises at Gachibowli here on Saturday, Anand stressed said by imparting training the drivers could be sentitised about the importance of women’s safety, defensive driving and better customer service. He said with their good beheviour and discipline, the cab drivers could act as city’s Brand Ambassadors as the first and last person with whom a tourist interacts is the cab driver.
The Cyberabad Commissioner praised the Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) for taking the initiative and said this programme should be conducted in all the IT companies. He said alert drivers can help the police in prevention of crime.
In his welcome address, TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin said that the Association, in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police, plans to train about 50,000 drivers on key issues related to safety and security of the passengers. Further, by following all traffic rules, the drivers could make Hyderabad and Telangana State an exemplary city and State across the globe.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Avinash Mohanty (Traffic), Head of Traffic Awareness Sub-Committee VS Prasasd and expert trainers of Cognizant Technology Services addressed the gathering. The CTS trainers gave a power-point presentation on defensive driving, basic precautions to be taken to prevent accidents and women’s safety.
The interactive training programme was well received by nearly 1,000 drivers, who work with different private cab operators, and they assured the authorities of their full cooperation and support in ensuring safety and security of not only the passengers, but their surroundings. They also took a pledge on safe driving.
The TSCBOA President informed that similar training programmes would be conducted for all the drivers operating in the Hyderabad and Cyberabad limits in batches of 700- 1,000 in different IT companies in Cyberabad limits.
