100 days of TRS Govt were full of disappointment: Shabbir Ali

Hyderabad, Sept 9: The people of Telangana have completed 100 days of living under an arrogant, insensitive and anti-welfare TRS Government.

This was stated by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Vice-President Mohammed Ali Shabbir after realizing the brochure “100 Days of TRS Misrule” at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday.

The last 100 days were full of disappointment, cheating and deceit. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which came to power on the basis of lies and fake promises, continued its spree of cheating and forced the people to chase the mirage called “Bangaru Telangana”. Shri K Chandrasekhar Rao Garu began his journey as the Chief Minister of Telangana by exhibiting total bias towards all others, except for his family. While he accommodated his son and son-in-law in his cabinet, he could not find a suitable woman and a Tribal leader to be inducted into the cabinet.

The Chief Minister then started giving different twists to the promises that he made with the people. He began it with the promise of waiver of farm loans, the major promise that brought his party to power. Within two days, KCRadded a rider by fixing a cut-off date for waiver of farm loans. This triggered strong protests by farmers across Telangana. One after the other, all other promises met the same fate. In the last 100 days, the TRS Government has proved the notorious saying, “Promises are made to be broken.”

The promise of waiver of farm loan is proving to be biggest lie in the history of Indian politics. The TRS Government different twists and turns to the original promise since it came to power. It also held a customary meeting with the State Level Bankers Committee and assured to take action after the SLBC furnished the data in 15 days. Following pressure from the Congress party, the State Cabinet also gave its nod to waive off the farm loans. But still, the promise remains unimplemented. The inordinate delay has left the farmers’ community disheartened and more than 200 farmers have committed suicide since TRS took over the regime.

The first major failure of TRS Government came in the shape of merger of seven mandals of Khammam district with Andhra Pradesh. The government not only failed to prevent the ordinance, but also failed to prevail upon the Centre to stop the Bill. The ruling party also gave a bandh call twice only to cover up its failure. Further, by excluding the seven mandals from the Intensive Household Survey (IHS), it permanently surrendered Telangana’s right over those mandals.

The Intensive Household Survey was another gimmick played by the TRS Government to delay the implementation of welfare schemes. An unscientific and unclear approach was adopted to conduct the survey, which remained incomplete as thousands of households were left out by the untrained enumerators. Now, the government intends to deprive the deserving beneficiaries of their rights citing lack of data.

We have enclosed the list of some of the promises made by the government and their status. The TRS Government has completely failed to honour its commitments towards the people of Telangana. At one side, it played different mind games to keep the people engaged on some or the issues and on the other, it unleashed an era of suppression of right to protest. Farmers were brutally lathicharged when they held protest against the erratic power supply. It was done in the home district of the Chief Minister himself and was aimed at conveying a message that the government would not tolerate any criticism or opposition. Similarly, the students of Osmania University, who played a major role in achieving statehood for the region, were brutally beaten up when they opposed regularisation of contract employees. The Chief Minister often humiliated the farmers and students with his sarcastic comments.

The inability of the TRS Government to handle the power crisis resulted in unprecedented power cuts across the State. While the farmers were deprived of adequate power, hundreds of industries were shut down due to frequent power holidays. The mishandling of the situation has completely shattered both the agricultural and industrial sectors in the State.

The students’ community was badly hit due to the unclear policies of the government. The avoidable controversy over EAMCET counseling forced the students and their parents to undergo mental torture and pain. Similarly, the government failed to clear uncertainty over fee reimbursement schemes. Although it announced that the scheme would be replaced with Financial Assistance for Students of Telangana (FAST), it is yet to come out with the guidelines.

The government did not move an inch in implementing the promise of 12% reservation for Scheduled Tribes and Muslims. Although the State Cabinet has decided to constitute a commission to study 12% reservation for Muslims, it is yet to constitute a commission and announce its Terms of Reference. Similarly, the SC and BC welfare too has been completely ignored by the government.

The TRS Government remained silence over non-grant of permission by the Centre to over 40 minority educational institutions. While two medical colleges – VRK and Fatima Medical Colleges were not given permission for admission this year, almost 45 engineering colleges in Telangana were denied permission to admit students this year. As against the promise of giving 12% reservation to Muslims, the community lost over 12,000 seats in the first 100 days of TRS coming to power.

While the Law and Order situation in the State has turned worse, the Crime Rate has touched a new high in Telangana. Daylight murders, robberies, incidents of rapes, snatchings and other crimes are hitting the headlines on daily basis.

On an average, one farmer has committed suicide in every 12 hours since TRS Government came to power. Similarly, one major crime like murder or rape is being reported at least once in 24 hours.

Despite making tall promises, the government did nothing for the welfare of employees. The government should not have dragged Special Increment till Dassara and it could have issued Health Cards to all the employees on almost immediate basis. But the government is deliberately going slow on the implementation of promises so as to extract maximum political mileage.

Shabbir Ali said that the TRS Government is proving to be “Tears Government” for the farmers, students, employees and other common people. Instead of listening to the woes of common people, the Chief Minister looks more interested in make them listen his “Raaga Singapori”. He got no time to visit the students who were injured in Masaipet accident, but he is completely free to meet the leaders who have defected from other parties.

“KCR is afraid of losing power due to the rising resentment and anger among the people. His own party men are unable to face the people on the non-implementation of promises made by them during elections. Therefore, fearing a backlash by the TRS legislators on one or the other day, KCRhas started building a shield around himself by encouraging defections in other parties. So far, he made five MLAs and 14 MLCs defect to the TRS from different opposition parties. By doing so, he has set an unhealthy trend of horse-trading which has been glamourised as “Operation Aakarshan,” he said.

The Congress Party will expose the failures of TRS Government and would adopt the mode of agitation to ensure that the farmers, students, employees and other sections of the society get justice and immediate relief from the problems being faced by them, Shabbir Ali said.
