Hyderabad, July 21 : AP State Minorities Commission Abid Rasool Khan on Monday informed that the Governments of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States were seriously considering the recommendations made by the commission with regard to payment of salaries of Moazams and Imams.
Speaking to media persons here, Rasool Khan said that the Commission had initiated and conducted a survey of socio-economic conditions of Moazams and Imams in the then united Andhra Pradesh. “The Commission is pleased to understand that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has already initiated action on the recommendations made and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has also considered the recommendations and necessary favourable orders are expected,” he said.
The commission got feedback from nearly 7.000 Moazams and Imams across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and recommended salaries of Rs 8,000 for Imam and Rs 6,000 for Moazams in major towns and cities and Rs 6,000 for Imam and Rs 4,000 for Moazams in small Towns and Villages.
The Commission had recommended that houses be provided to the Moazams and Imams in any of the Housing programmes that are undertaken by the Government for Housing poor, in the vicinity of the Mosques. Several other recommendations were also made by the commission. INN
