Hyderabad, May 30 : A new committee has been appointed to manage the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) which is the organizer of the annual biotechnology business forum, BioAsia.
At the 11th Annual General Meeting held on Thursday in Hyderabad, Prof. W L Sumathipala, Chairman, National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka was appointed as the President of FABA by its members. At this meeting, Dr. K Vijay Kumar, Additional Professor, Dept. of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences was appointed the Secretary General. Prof. K V Raghavan, Scientist Emeritus, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology will be the new Working President while Prof. P Reddanna, Director, National Institute of Animal Biotechnology will function as the Vice President of FABA.
Past Secretary General Dr. B S Bajaj has retired after a 10 year stint with the Federation since its inception. As a token of recognition of his contributions, the FABA management committee decided to honour him by conferring him the position of Secretary General, Emeritus. Mr. Shakthi Nagappan is the Executive Secretary in the new FABA committee and will continue to lead the organization of BioAsia, as its CEO.
FABA has been engaged in various activities related to promoting Biotechnology in Asian countries. Headquartered at Hyderabad, it has a strong network base in 20 Asian countries including China, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Israel, Iran, Indonesia, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and UAE.
