Hyderabad, May 28 : The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday threatened to launch an agitation if the BJP Government at the Centre initiates works on the Polavaram Project with the existing design.
Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan here, TRS senior leader T Harish Rao alleged that the present design of the Polavaram Project would hurt the interest of Telangana State. Therefore, the project should not be started without carrying out required modifications. He said that the TRS would approach the Supreme Court, if required to press for its demands. He also warned of serious agitation if the Centre does not change the Polavaram Project’s design.
Harish Rao accused TDP chief and Chief Minister-designate N Chandrababu Naidu of trying to bring out an ordinance secretly to start works on Polavaram Project. He alleged that Naidu was trying to take advantage of his alliance with the BJP. Further, he said that Naidu was trying to allocate the affected mandals of Khammam district to residual state of Andhra Pradesh. He asked Naidu to refrain from going ahead with the existing design of Polavaram Project. He said that although the TRS was forming the government in Telangana, the party would not hesitate to launch massive agitation.
The TRS leader asked the TDP leaders from Telangana region to intervene on the issue and oppose Naidu’s move. He questioned their silence on the issue and demanded that the T-TDP leaders prevent Naidu from going ahead on Polavaram Project. He also asked BJP to clarify whether it wants to support the people of Telangana or wants to remain silent over the anti-Telangana moves by its ally. INN
