Only 12 Muslim MLAs in Telangana, Seemandhra

Hyderabad, May 17: The bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the TRS, TDP and Modi wave in the State had very little impact on the representation of Muslims in the Telangana and Seemandhra Assemblies.

The number of Muslims MLA in Telangana has registered a slight increase. Besides the seven MLAs of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeeen, Shakil of Telangana Rashtra Samithi is the addition in Telangana Assembly. In 2009, only seven Muslim MLAs of MIM represented Telangana in the Assembly of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Shakil got elected from Bodhan seat of Nizamabad district.

There has been no change in the number of Muslim MLAs in Seemandhra. While four Muslims were elected to the Assembly in 2009, this time too their number remained the same. All four Muslim MLAs got elected on YSR Congress Party’s ticket. They are Jaleel Khan (Vijaywada West), Mohammad Mustafa Shaik (Guntur East), SB Azmath Basha (Kadapa) and Attar Chand Basha (Kadiri).
