Hyderabad, May 16: Mumtaz Ahmed Khan has registered a comfortable victory from Yakutpura Assembly constituency. He won the seat with a margin of about 38,000 votes.
Yakutpura was considered one of the toughest seats to be retained by the MIM during the campaign. MBT’s Majeedullah Khan Farhat has given a tough contest and there were speculations of MIM losing the seat. However, Mumtaz Khan retained the seat for the fifth consecutive term and with a significant margin. During the counting, BJP’s CH Roop Raj emerged as the main contender while Farhat Khan was confined to the third position.
The MIM too had focused all its energies on Yakutpura as winning the seat became a matter of prestige for the party. The presence of large number of crowd in Farhat Khan’s public meetings also gave rise to speculations that he might defeat the veteran MLA. However, all speculations were put to rest when the EVMs were opened on Friday. Mumtaz Khan maintained lead in almost all the rounds of counting and finally emerged a clear winner.
