Hyderabad, May 14 : BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu has described Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh as an honest and simple person but a leader who ended up as a “protector of the corrupt for the sake of his kursi or power.”
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Venkaiah Naidu said that the Prime Minister maintained personal integrity but tolerated corruption all along and people have come to the conclusion that he was seen in complicit with those corrupt people. He is seen as a weak and ineffective Prime Minister handing over power to the extra-constitutional authority i.e., the Congress President, he said.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh was in power without authority. Being a great economist himself, his regime saw slow down in growth, continuous inflation, negative industrial growth and the weak investor sentiment. He started with 8.4% growth rate when Vajpayee demitted office and is demitting office with 4.8%. If one has to sum up his governance record, he is a total failure, ineffective and led a government of policy paralysis harming country’s interests,” Venkaiah Naidu said.
Dr. Singh has no political base and that is why he could not acquire an identity for himself even after being in power for 10 long years, he said.
Venkaiah Naidu said that the BJP’s campaign for 2014 elections revolved around three points – Good governance, development and exposing failures of UPA’s corruption, price rise etc., Likewise, he alleged that the Congress also ran a 3-point campaign –accuse, abuse, demonize and discredit Modi; spread lies about BJP governments in States, NDA’s achievements and divert attention of the people from their betrayals, and communalize and vitiate the atmosphere, polarize voters so that they can get a respectable number of seats.
“Our 3-point agenda paid rich dividends where as their agenda boomeranged on them. They are facing the worst ever defeat. They will not cross double digit at national level and will not get double digits in any State and will not open account in some States,” he said.
Venkaiah Naidu informed that the BJP’s Parliamentary Party would meet on May 17 to formally elected Narendra Modi as its leader. He said that the party’s Parliamentary Board meeting too is scheduled on May 17. INN
