SCR launches Double-Decker train

Hyderabad, May 13 : The South Central Railway conducted the maiden run of its first ever double-decker train service from Kacheguda-Guntur at 5.30 AM on Tuesday.

The SCR will run air-conditioned double-decker superfast bi-weekly trains on Kacheguda-Guntur (Train No. 22118) and Kacheguda-Tirupati (Train No. 22120) routes from Tuesday onwards.

The train will have 12 coaches in all, including 2 power coaches. The ultra-modern coaches of the double-decker train are fitted with Very Early Smoke/Fire Detection with Alarm System (VESDA) for enhanced safety of the passengers. The coaches have a carrying capacity of 120 passengers as against 73 in the conventional chair cars. Middle deck-which is at the entrance level-has 22 seats, lower deck has 48 seats, and upper deck has 50 seats.

The colour scheme and interiors are a departure from the convention to give aesthetic appeal and added comfort. The fare structure of the train is similar to that of AC chair car coaches.  INN
