Hyderabad, Feb 18 : GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain, Commissioner Somesh Kumar and Special Commissioner Navin Mittal have congratulated the Urban Biodiversity team of GHMC for bagging 13 awards including overall championship in recently held annual garden festival organized by department of Horticulture in GHMC Head Office today.
The Mayor and Commissioner have instructed the Biodiversity wing to bag more prizes next year as GHMC is committed to double the budget for the year 2014-15 for taking up various developmental activities pertaining to Parks to have more greenery in the twin cities. Y Ramesh, Director, Urban Biodiversity has briefed that GHMC received 10 awards during 2012-13, received 13 awards this year and will strive for more awards in the coming financial year.
The GHMC bagged 13 awards in the categories of Theme Parks, Landscape Gardens maintained by State Government & Central Government Departments, Colony Parks maintained GHMC, Traffic Island and Podium Gardens and Overall Championship.
The Urban Biodiversity wing is aiming at developing more greenery by taking up tree planting activity in all the open spaces within G.H.M.C. limits during next year. The GHMC is also planning to take up development of the historical Mir Alam Lake.
Other proposed activities include theme parts like Rock garden at Jubilee Hills, Ficus Garden at Jubilee Hills, Butterfly garden at Jubilee Hills, Caudaceae Park at Kukatpally; Avenue plantation in uncovered routes; Major parks at Vasanthnagar at Kukapally, Kishanbagh park and beautification of Musi River stretch opposite High Court.
