Hyderabad, Feb 5 : The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to take up several initiatives for the beautification of historic Mir Alam Tank. The GHMC has proposed for sanction of works worth of about Rs 4 crores in Phase-1 and the tenders will be called for shortly.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi along with senior officials of the GHMC inspected the conditions at Mir Alam Tank on Wednesday. The GHMC has decided to undertake several measures to make Mir Alam Tank a visitors’ paradise. They include repairs and patch up work to the existing fencing. MS grill is also proposed to be erected along the main road.
The GHMC has proposed three entry plazas with each at both the ends of the ring bund and one will be in the mid way. A proper parking area will be demarcated for convenience of the public. Other visitors’ amenities like seating, toilets, play equipment, lighting, cafeteria, amphitheaters, stalls, kiosks etc. will be developed. In view of the environmental concern all the structures will be built as temporary structures for conserving the lake ecology.
The corporation will undertake plantation in the border areas as well as approach roads. Plantation will be taken up in foreshore area to protect the soil, water recycling improvement and protection from encroachments.
It is proposed to develop walking tracks on the peripheral bund to improve the recreation of the visitors. A surrounding green belt around the walkway is proposed to ensure better oxygen availability and regulated usage of lake area. It is also proposed to develop the “Bicycling tracks” on the tank ring bund covering a track length of 6.5 km and setting up of two bicycle stations on the two ends of the bund. A beautiful park will also be developed with thematic plantations and lawn area, on the available land area at Nav number, Kishanbagh. It is also proposed to restore the nursery point and to develop a central nursery for propagating the plants required by GHMC.
The Thematic plantations and bird attracting species plantation will be taken up on the three islands located. Additional boating facilities will be created for improvement in the recreation of the visitors. Suitable high jet fountains will be installed in the water spread area to provide aeration and aesthetics. The general illumination on the bund will be done for visitors’ safety and visibility. Thematic illumination will be done along the walkways, bicycle track and other important spots in the landscape / plantation areas, entry plaza, parking etc.
It is also proposed to take up water quality improvement measures such as diversion of sewerage lines and nalas, removal of aquatic weed. Suitable phyto-remediation techniques will be used for treating the inlet water.
Asaduddin Owaisi appreciated the GHMC for the initiatives taken in respect of Mir Alam tank development activities. He expressed satisfaction on the components of GHMC plan and suggested to add the security components to GHMC plan and advised to install the cameras and Electronic Surveillance System.
