Hyderabad, Jan 29 : Prof. Balasubramanian Senthilkumaran, Head, Department of Animal Sciences, School of Life Sciences-CAS, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad has been conferred the prestigious DBT-TATA Innovation Fellowship-2014 by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India for his outstanding research contribution in unraveling the sexual development, plasticity, gametogenesis and endocrine disruption using various fish models.
Prof. Senthilkumaran has done his Ph D from Banaras Hindu University, Varansi. His areas of research include Fish Molecular Endocrinology, Molecular Reproductive Biology, Neuroendocrinology etc.
Prof. Senthilkumaran has received awards like Young Scientist Award, ESCE, the Netherlands (1994), STA fellow, NRIA, Mie, Japan (1996-1998), JSPS & JST fellow, NIBB, Okazaki, Japan, (1998-2003), Visiting Scientist, CUHK, Hong Kong (December, 2006-January, 2007), Visiting Professor, NIPS, Okazaki, Japan (2008, 2011), JSPS Invitation Fellow, 2011-12, University of Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Japan, Guest Editor-2005, Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, Springer (Journals), the Netherlands, Academic Editor, PLoS One, from 2011 onwards to name a few.
The DBT-TATA Innovation Fellowship is an acclaimed award conferred by the Government of India to few selected senior Indian bio-scientists of less than 55 years of age. The award is given annually for those who had unique and significant contributions for the development of state-of-the-art technology in basic and applied areas of biotechnology through demonstrated activity in the form of publications in internationally peer-reviewed reputed journals or patents.
