Hyderabad, Jan 27 : The State Government and Visakhapatnam City got three Awards for providing best Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP). Visakhapatnam got Best city award for implementation of BSUP for 2012-13, Best city award in effective enforcement of three pro poor reforms. GVMC has taken up construction of 14,203 housing units for the poor, completed 14139 and handed over 12,348. The State Government got the SJSRY award for providing amenities for urban poor.
Municipal Administration Minister M. Maheedhar Reddy, Principal Secretary Sameer Sarma, GVMC Commissioner M.V.V.Satyanarayana and Senior IAS Officer Anitha Rajendran called on the Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday and presented the three awards received from the Government of India.
The Chief Minister congratulated them. The Awards were given were given for three pro-poor reforms of earmarking at least 20-25% of developed land in all housing programmes both in public private agencies for EWS LIG category with a system of cross subsidisation; Internal earmarking within local body budget for Basic Services to Urban Poor and provision of basic services i.e. security of land tenure at affordable price, improved housing, water supply, sanitation, education, health and social security.
