DGP stresses need for traffic awareness in city

Hyderabad, Jan 13 : Director General of Police B Prasada Rao has stressed the need for awareness of traffic rules among the road users in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Addressing a programme held in connection with 25th National Road Safety Week here on Monday, the DGP said that Hyderabad was a cosmopolitan city by nature. However, it still lacks proper traffic sense. He expressed concern over the violation of traffic rules and said that all road users should be aware of the rules and follow it. He also advised the parents to ensure that their children do not indulge in rash driving. He said several precious lives could be saved if everyone follows the traffic rules.

The DGP also released a short film on traffic regulations on this occasion. He also welcomed the appointed of former cricketer VVS Laxman as the brand ambassador of Hyderabad Traffic Police.

Prasad said that the growing pollution was badly affecting the health of traffic policemen in the city. Therefore, he said efforts should be made to reduce the pollution on city roads. He also said that the increase in traffic challans from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 had no major impact on the violation of rules.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said that traffic management has become the most difficult jobs for the city police. He said that the traffic conditions in the city could be improved in the city by creating proper awareness.

Additional Commission (Traffic) Amit Garg said that so far the Hyderabad Traffic Police created awareness among 80,000 students of nearly 4,000 schools besides educating about 2,000 RTC drivers. He said that the awareness drives would be continued in future.

Ex-cricketer VVS Laxman thanked the Hyderabad Traffic Police for appointing him as the Brand Ambassador. He said he would play an active role in creating traffic awareness among the masses in the city. He said proper driving by all could save several precious lives being lost on city roads.
