Hyderabad, Jan 10 : The South Central Railway carried out a series of intensified special drives during the months of April-December, 2013 against ticketless/irregular travel over its jurisdiction involving Ticket Checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel.
During the drives, 19.8 lakh cases were detected which include 5.7 lakh cases of Ticketless Travel, 7 lakh cases of Irregular Travel and 7.1 lakh cases of Un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 62.2 Cr. was realized towards penalty from these cases, which is 11 % higher when compared to that of last year.
The surprise checks were carried out by the Flying Squads of the Divisions and Head Quarters under the supervision of senior Railway officials. It helped to enhance the effectiveness of the ticket checking activities at various stations and in trains so as to curb the social menace of ticketless and irregular travel and also to arrest leakage of revenue.
SCR General Manager P K Srivastava issued instructions to the officials concerned to step up these checks in the ensuing holidays / festive season in order to ensure a comfortable and secure travel to the bona- fide passengers. INN
