State aims for 100 per cent electrification

Hyderabad, Dec 25 : The Andhra Pradesh Government which had already achieved 100 per cent village electrification, has now drawn up an action plan to achieve 100 per cent electrification even in habitations and remote/agency areas to improve the living standards of the all Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries.

As part of this action plan, the high level committee headed by Chief Secretary Dr P K Mohanty has submitted the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to Ministry of Power, Government of India for taking up the above programme in 17 districts under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) for the 12th Plan. The recent meeting of State Level Coordination Committee on RGGVY, chaired by Dr Mohanty and attended by M. Sahoo, Spl. Chief Secretary, Energy, S.P. Tucker, Spl. Chief Secretary, Planning & Finance, V.K. Agarwal, Prl. Secretary, Revenue, Suresh Chanda, CMD/APTRANSCO, Munindra, Spl. Secretary, Energy, CMDs of DISCOMs, S.A.M. Rizvi, K.Misra, Seshagiri Babu, H.Y. Dora, has recommended the proposals of around Rs. 666 Crores for electrification of habitations and infrastructure development under RGGVY for 12th plan. It will cover 14,670 villages and around 10.25 lakhs electrification of BPL households in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Warangal, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Medak, Mahbubnagar, Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasham, Krishna & Guntur.

Under RGGVY scheme free electricity connections are being provided to BPL households under RGGVY and Govt. is spending Rs. 3000 on each BPL connection. The Committee, which had been constituted by State Government under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary for effective implementation of RGGVY in the State, will monitor the progress, quality control and resolve issues such as allocation of land for substations, right of way, forest clearance, railway clearance, safety clearance, etc for expediting the project. The Government of India has approved the scheme for continuation of RGGVY in 12th and 13th plans with a total outlay of Rs 35,447 Crs with an aim to provide access to electricity to all the rural/remote areas in the Country. AP stool No.1 in the country in RGGVY and so far 13,002 un-electrified habitations, have been electrified covering 35,65,160 rural households including 26,65,142 BPL Rural Households. Impressed with the performance of power utilities on Rural Electrification, the Centre has released Rs.795 Crores so far towards the RGGVY programme during 10th and 11th plan. INN
