Jagan to hold Samaikhandhra meet in Hyd

Hyderabad, Sept 30 : YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday announced that his party would conduct a massive public meeting in Hyderabad between October 15 and 20th against the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan made the announcement while addressing a press conference after submitting a memorandum to Governor ESL Narasimhan requesting his intervention for convening the special session of the State Legislative Assembly at the earliest. In his first interaction with the media after his release on bail from Chanchalguda Jail, where he was lodged for nearly 16 months in the Disproportionate Assets case, Jagan said that the Assembly should pass a resolution to keep the State united before the Telangana Note reaches Union Cabinet. He also announced that the YSRCP would conduct a “Samaikhya Shankaravaram” meeting in Hyderabad.

Jagan also denied the allegations that his release on bail was part of the secret deal he had with the Congress party. He said he would not have been in jail for 16 months if he had to strike some deal with the Congress party.

“We approached the Supreme Court twice. At first instance, the apex court set to finish the inquiry in certain time frame. When it initially set a 6-month timeline, our lawyers argued against its prolongation of 6 months and got it removed. Nevertheless, CBI went on dragging the case, without filing the chargesheet. Again we approached the Supreme Court second time, and four months timeframe was set. Obviously CBI was bound to follow the Supreme Court’s orders,” Jagan said.

The YSRCP said that his confinement in jail for 16 months was unconstitutional. He said that the Law clearly says that a person should be granted bail if the probing agency fails to complete investigation within three months. However, that did not happen in his case. “This is absolutely a political conspiracy where political parties have gone to the court and political parties have utilised the machinery what was in front of them,” he alleged.

Jagan also ruled out the possibilities of having any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party although he praised Narendra Modi for his administrative skills. He said that all political parties should follow the principals of secularism and restrain from creating insecurity among certain communities. However, he hinted that he could ally with the Communists, JD (U) and other secular parties. INN
