Hyderabad, Sept 29 : The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Sunday rejected the petition moved by Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy seeking extension of his tenure.
After the verdict of High Court’s division bench, comprising justices Ashutosh Mohunta and D Seshadri Naidu, Dinesh Reddy will now retire from his post on Monday.
Earlier, the HC bench heard the petition filed by Dinesh Reddy challenging the decision of the Hyderabad bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal which has refused to direct the state government to continue him as the DGP till the end of September next year. Advocate General Sudharshan Reddy argued the case on behalf of the State Government which was heard at the residence of Justice Ashutosh. The bench also heard the version of DGP’s lawyer. Although the bench posted the case for Monday, but a few hours later, it pronounced its verdict rejecting the DGP’s plea.
It may be mentioned that the DGP on Saturday sought permission from the High Court to move an urgent motion before it in view of his retirement on Monday. While allowing filing of the petition, Chief Justice KJ Sengupta allotted the matter to a division bench.
