Hyderabad, May 23 : GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain and Commissioner MT Krishna Babu observed that the ongoing desilting works were going on a slow pace and there was a need to expedite the works on priority.
The Mayor and Commissioner, along with senior officials have inspected major nalas in Central Zone on Thursday. They visited Balkapur nala from Banjara function hall to the entire stretch up to Ahmed Nagar, Road No. 1, Pension payment Office, Murad Nagar, Gudimalkapur, Khaja Nagar, Bhola Nagar.
The Mayor directed the Chief Engineer and the Superintendent Engineer to deploy more labour in shift basis and the work to be completed by the end of this month. He observed that lot of encroachments were coming up at Bada Bazar Bridge, Osman PT Bridge and directed the Deputy Commissioner, Cirlce No.7 to remove all the unauthorized encroachments with the help of the Town Planning wing immediately.
Majid Hussain directed the Commissioner to modernize the central emergency squad with sufficient machinery and labour so that the emergency squad can tackle the emergent situations without any inconvenience in the interest of the citizen’s safety. The Mayor and Commissioner personally inspected one of the catch pits and expressed the works which are being taken up are satisfactory.
BJP floor leader Bangari Prakash briefed the Mayor and Commissioner about the ongoing works in his area and requested them that in spite of lifting of debris and garbage by the contractors earlier, the same has been accumulated due to various reasons for which the Commissioner directed the Superintendent Engineer to personally monitor with the concerned Executive Engineers and contractors to remove the silt garbage, debris etc., on priority basis. He also requested the Commissioner to shift the fruit vendors as most of the fruit vendors near Gudimalkapur market are throwing waste materials in to the nala and to keep it clean for free flow of water during heavy down pour.
The Commissioner said that nearly 65 per cent of the desilting works in the entire GHMC area have been completed and the progress of works has to be expedited by engaging more labour. He further directed the Chief Engineer to construct the retaining walls beside the nala wherever necessary to curb the menace of regular dumping. He also said that 150 stagnation points have been identified and sanctions have already been accorded and the works are in progress likely to be completed by June end.
Central Zone Incharge Commissioner N Ravi Kiran, Chief Engineer K Suresh Kumar, Superintending Engineer Srimannarayana and other senior officials from Engineering, Town Planning and Health wings participated in the inspection. INN
