KCR announces 43% fitment for State Govt employees

Hyderabad, Feb 5 (INN): Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday announced a 43 per cent fitment in pay scales of State Government employees.

Addressing a press conference after holding a meeting with the employees associations here, the Chief Minister said that the hike in salaries would be implemented retrospectively from June 2, 2014, the Telangana Formation Day, and the new salary would be paid from March. The arrears would be deposited in the GPF accounts. The fitment would be paid to those who retired after June 2, 2014.

The Chief Minister said that it was the first Pay Revision implementation for the employees after formation of Telangana State. He claimed that the government has hiked the salaries beyond their expectation, as it promised earlier.

The 10th Pay Revision Commission had recommended 29 per cent while the employees who are getting 27 per cent interim relief, and seeking 69 per cent hike, were expecting about 50 fitment. The Chief Minister said that there were several instances wherein the hike in salaries given by the State Governments was beyond the recommendations of the PRCs.

KCR said that the decision to give such a massive hike was taken to recognise the role played by the employees during statehood movement. He said that the Telangana State was not possible without the active participation of the employees. He said that the employees participated in historic ‘Sakula Janula Samme’ for a period of 42 days. Many of them faced cases and put their jobs at stake to achieve statehood for Telangana, he said.

The Chief Minster said that the hike would increase the burden on State’s exchequer by Rs 6,500 crore per year. He said that the new fitment will be effective from next March, he said adding that the employees will get it from Telangana Formation Day i.e., June 2, 2014 onwards and the arrears amount will be added to GPF accounts. The fitment will be given to those retired after June 2, 2014.

KCR said the decision on contract and outsourcing staff would be taken later.

Employees Associations leaders Devi Prasad, Sujatha and Narendra Rao and Parliamentary Secretary Srinivas Goud welcomed the decision and assured that all employees would work hard to support the Chief Minister in realisation of his dream of ‘Bangaru Telangana’.
