GHMC spends only two-fifth of allocated Rs 250 Crore budget

Hyderabad, Aug 6 (INN): Contrary to the claims of development in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has so far spent just Rs 100 crore out of Rs 250 crore of allocated budget for the current financial year.

These statistics were disclosed by GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain during a review meeting with Floor Leaders, Standing Committee Members, Zonal Commissioners, Additional Commissioners (Revenue & Finance), Chief Engineer and other officials on all the estimates prepared for Corporator budget for the year 2014-15 in his chambers on Wednesday. Of 150 Wards in the GHMC limits, proposals have been received only for 128 Wards and estimates have been prepared for 713 works amounting to Rs. 141 crores. However, so far, the sanction has been given for 527 works worth only Rs 100 crores. As many as 36 works worth Rs 5.7 crore have been identified under SC Sub-Plan while 8 works worth Rs 1 crore have been sanctioned under ST Sub-Plan.

The Mayor has instructed all the Zonal Commissioners to expedite the works on priority to ensure that the GHMC spends the entire allocated budget. He also directed the Zonal Commissioners to prepare the estimates so that the development works can be expedited and best civic amenities could be provided to the citizens of the Hyderabad.
