TDP asks GHMC chief to think beyond collections, demolitions

Hyderabad, July 28 : Telugu Desam Party floor leader in GHMC Singireddy Srinivas Reddy on Monday asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to focus on rendering services to people than concentrating only on collection of tax or demolition of illegal structures.

In a representation made to GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, Singireddy said that the GHMC authorities have failed in its prime motto of “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. The total sanitation has come to a standstill. Roads got damaged due to scanty rainfall. Street lights are not in working condition and rain water harvesting units have not been provided in the government and GHMC offices including the residential colonies, he alleged.

Singireddy said that several people were suffering from highly contagious diseases like, Swine Flu, Dengue and Chikun Gunea. As many as 20 cases of Swine Flu have been reported in Erragadda Hospital and one of the patients has succumbed to the disease. Two more cases of Dengue Fever have been referred to the Fever Hospital and four cases of Chikun Gunea in Kapra Hospital have been registered.

“All this is happened due to the dreaded insects and parasites i.e., leech breeding underneath damped and unhygienic Dumper Bins due to non-sprinkling of bleeching powder. Though an officer of IAS Cadre is being made incharge for sanitation, no suitable remedial measures have been invented to maintain adequate sanitation,” Singreddy said.

He requested the Commissioner to concentrate on extending all the necessities to the common man including perfect sanitation, maintenance of roads and street lights, rain water harvesting, etc., keeping in view of the prevailing rainy season, in the GHMC limits.  INN
