SCR registers 11.6% growth in first quarter

Hyderabad, July 11 : The South Central Railway has shown an improved performance in gross earnings and traffic volume during April to June, 2014 of the current fiscal 2014-15, i.e., vis-à-vis last year.

The gross originating earnings of SCR has registered 11.6% growth during the first quarter ie., from April to June, 2014 of the current financial year. The Zone has achieved Gross Originating Earnings of Rs. 2893.71 Cr. during this period, which is Rs. 300.64 Cr. higher when compared to Rs.2593 Cr. earned during the corresponding period of last fiscal 2013-14.

Freight Segment :

South Central Railway loaded 27.59 Million Tonnes (MT) of originating freight during April to June, 2014 of the current fiscal. The earnings from originating freight loading registered a marginal growth of 6.6% during the first quarter of the current fiscal. During this period, the originating freight earnings were Rs. 1964.76 Cr. as against Rs. 1843.57 Cr. achieved in the same period of last year.

The major commodities moved by SCR during the period are:

Coal : Coal accounts for the largest chunk of freight loading on SCR accounting for 56.36% of the total loading. SCR loaded 15.55 MT of Coal during the April to June, 2014.

Cement :  SCR loaded 7.76 MT of Cement during the period being reported, compared to 6.99 MT loaded during the corresponding period of last fiscal, registering an increase of 11%.

Fertilizers:  The cumulative loading of fertilizers up to June, 2014 was 0.85 MT which is 13.3% more compared to last year’s loading of 0.75 MT for the same period.

The other major commodities being loaded on SCR include raw materials for steel plants, Container freight, Petro-products and general merchandise.

Passenger Segment :

The Zone carried 97.5 millions of originating passengers during April to June, 2014.

Passenger Earnings:  The Passenger earnings have shown an impressive growth of 21.3% with Rs.742.8 Cr. during April to June 2014, compared to Rs. 612.50 Cr. during the corresponding period of last fiscal.  INN
