Mayor slams Collectors for non-allotment of completed houses to beneficiaries

Hyderabad, June 24 : GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain has found fault with the District Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy for non-allotment of completed houses to beneficiaries.

The Mayor said that the GHMC has completed the construction of all the house houses under JNNURM Housing Scheme. But the project was being delayed due to the Collectors who were not taking proper interest to complete the project on priority basis. He opined that the Collectors concerned should take a firm decision that if one beneficiary is not paying his contribution, then the houses would be allotted to new beneficiaries. He said that the GHMC has invested lot of money for construction of houses.

Majid Hussain informed that Rs. 240 crores was yet to be received from the beneficiaries as beneficiaries’ contribution. He said even banks were not willing to provide funds because of their bad experiences. He further informed that the JNNURM scheme has to be completed by March 2015 under any circumstances, failing which the allotted amount would be of no use. Therefore, he directed the Special Commissioner and Additional Commissioner (UCD) to convene a meeting with Project Directors of Housing of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Districts along with the bankers to chalk out the problems so that the project could be completed in a stipulated time.

The Mayor further stated that the GHMC would rethink on its deposits in the banks who are not cooperating with the corporation in the housing scheme.

Majid Hussain also directed the Engineer-in-Chief and the Special Commissioner to arrange special visits to the housing sites to know the status and ground reality of the works taken up for the housing schemes in various locations. He said that 15,000 houses which have been constructed have to be divided into two phases. In the first phase, 7,500 houses will be taken up in the core area and the remaining 7,500 houses would be completed in the peripheral areas.

The Mayor said that a white ration card holder earns Rs 18,000/- in a year and asking the beneficiary to pay the contribution of Rs. 1 lakh was on very high side to the beneficiary for which the GHMC has to take a decision whether the GHMC can contribute the beneficiary amount from the GHMC funds.

Housing Committee Members Corporators Raj Jithender Nath, M. Bhanu Prasad and C Srinivas, GHMC Special Commissioner Rahul Bojja, Engineer-in-Chief R. Dhan Singh, Additional Commissioner (UCD) K Siva Parvathi and senior Engineering officials from Housing and GHMC have participated in the review meeting.     INN
