Hyderabad, Jan 5 : In view of depletion of natural resources like Coal, Natural Gas, unpredictable inflows into the reservoirs and to protect the interest of the State & environment in particular & also to meet the ever raising power demand which is increasing around 10% per annum, “We have to create wide range awareness among the general public/consumers and invariably implement the energy efficiency & energy conservation activities vigorously on priority basis in all seasons (365 days) to achieve the desired goals of energy savings.” For this, all Depts, should expedite the implementation of comprehensive action plans for achieving overall estimated savings of around 15,000 MU.
Disclosing the above details, Dr. P.K. Mohanty, Chief Secretary & Chairperson/SECM, Govt. of A.P., in an informal meeting on Saturday evening with M. Sahoo, Spl. CS, Energy & Suresh Chanda, CMD/APTRANSCO, Munindra, Spl. Secretary, Energy, said that it has been decided to hold high level review meeting on the various implementation activities of EE&EC on 10th January at 5.00 P.M.
All key depts., like Industry, Agrl., MA&UD, Panchayat Raj, R&B, Rural Development, etc. have to form their own department wise Energy Conservation Cells to continuously monitor the energy conservation activities in their respective Depts., as energy conservation is a least cost option. CS emphasized that energy conservation activities should go along with promotion of solar, especially in Govt Depts and AP Secretariat in particular.
The Chief Secretary also desired to implement comprehensive communication strategy to involve each & every consumer/stakeholder for treating Energy Conservation as social responsibility. It will be worthwhile to include the entire force of self-help groups of over 10 lakh numbers (which are popular at the National level also) consisting of around 1.2 crore women members, who have made history in achieving the overall economic development of rural & urban areas and improving the living standards in their communities. SECM also contemplates to involve National Green Corps (NGC) to take up the Energy Conservation Awareness activities to educate the students of various schools & colleges in the State.
The officials informed the Chief Secretary that the prestigious Central University of Hyderabad have come forward to include “Energy Economics” in their curriculum for highlighting the significance of Energy Efficiency & Conservation measures with the full support & cooperation of SECM for the benefit of future generations.
The top officials of the Govt. i.e. Spl. CS, Energy, Prl. Secretaries of Finance, MA&UD, Agrl., Industry, Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Secretary RWS, CMDS of APTRANSCO & APCPDCL, Commissioners of Agrl, Industry, GHMC, HMDA, I&PR, VC&MD/NREDCAP, representatives of CII, FICCI, FAPCCI, etc, will attend the above meeting on 10th January, 2014. The agenda of the proposed meeting includes (i) Action plan for replacement of Old Motors & Pump sets in rural & urban water supply schemes (ii)Awareness activities to be taken up to encourage ID crops in Rabi season (iii)Implementation of Energy Conservation Building (ECB) Code and other related topics (iv)Action plan for awareness campaign activities on Energy Efficiency & Energy Conservation (EE&EC) measures (v)Follow up action on the recommendations of energy auditing in Govt. Buildings (vi)Constitution of Department wise Energy Efficiency Cells, etc. INN
